The Birth of Buddhism : An introduction to the life of the Buddha and the spread of Buddhism

10th January 2013, 10:00, Palace Green Library, Dunelm Gallery

10th January - 7th April
This exhibition presents the story of the birth and life of Siddhartha Gautama, later recognised as the Buddha, and the early spread of Buddhism in South Asia.

Birth of Buddhism draws from the University's outstanding collections, brought to life with images of past and present archaeological excavations in South Asia. The exhibition opening coincides with the screening of a National Geographic documentary on the Durham University directed UNESCO excavations at the World Heritage Site of Lumbini, Nepal - the birthplace of the Buddha.
