Tours of Durham Castle

Durham Castle

Durham Castle is open to visitors by guided tour which take approximately 45 minutes. There will be guided tours at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm today.

Durham Castle commissioned by King William the Conqueror around 1072 is the home of the University College, founding college of Durham University. The Castle has had an extremely interesting history as the home of the Prince Bishops of Durham until 1837, a halls of residence for University students and an accredited museum. Tickets for tours are available from Palace Green Library, situated between the Castle and Cathedral. Group bookings for parties of 10 or more must be booked in advance by contacting Palace Green Library, Durham, DH1 3RN. Tel: 0191 3342932.
