“Persons, Hierarchies and Urban Growth in Balkan Prehistory”

2nd May 2013, 18:00 to 19:00, Josephine Butler College, Durham University

Inaugural Lecture Series
Join Prof John Chapman as he delivers this inaugural lecture, focusing on three ways to deepen our understanding of past societies. The Neolithic and Copper Age of the Balkans (6500 – 4000 BC) represents a classic case of ‘Balkanisation’, with the rich material culture of the deep past parcelled up into a perpetually shifting mosaic of small groups modelled on modern nation-states.

There have been many attempts to transcend the barrier of these groups to reach, as it were, the “Indian behind the artifact”.

There is no charge for this event. Places must be pre-booked by visiting the website https://www.dur.ac.uk/conference.booking/
