About Face

Repeated daily until 23rd June 2012, Durham Light Infantry Museum
5th May - 24th June
The Centre for Medical Humanities, in collaboration with Durham Light Infantry Mseum Art Gallery, are presenting an exhibition of portraiture featuring works by the surgeon artist Henry Tonks.

These works are on loan from the Royal College of Surgeons and include 3 sets of four of the Tonks pictures they have in their collection, the largest exhibition of these that the RCS has allowed.

In addition there will be three talks held at the Durham Light Infantry Museum in assocation with the exhibition as follows:


Wednesday 30th May 7.30pm - 'Portraiture and Suffering', Ludmilla Jordanova, Professor of Modern History, King's College London.

Thursday 21st January 7.30pm - 'The Face of War: Figuring Empathy in Pat Barkers Life Class', Anne Whitehead, University of Newcastle.
