Creating web pages at the University
Local policy on web publishing
The current local policy on the creation of web pages on the University's web server, and code of practice may be found on the ITS web pages at http://www.dur.ac.uk/its/services/web/publishing/ This policy predates the recent project to move all 'official' (see below) University web pages into the web content management system, but is still applicable.
'Official' & 'non-official' pages
'Official' University web pages are those pages which provide information for an external audience and members of the University for academic departments, colleges, and service/administration departments and sections. They include pages for research centres and groups, and particular functions and services offered by departments. These pages should be created within the University's web content management system, and comply with University brand guidelines.
To request a location for the creation of official pages within the web content management system, please follow the procedure under 'Official pages'.
'Non official' web pages include personal web pages, pages for student JCRs (unless these are created as part of the College web site) and societies, and staff clubs and associations. 'Non-personal' non-official web pages should be created using a non-personal ITS account. to request such an account please contact the ITS Helpdesk. See 'Unofficial pages' in this section for further information.
Web servers and domain names
It is University policy that 'official' University web pages should be hosted on the www.dur.ac.uk server, although other web servers may be used to host pages for specific purposes, particularly when the audience is internal to the University.
Requests for a different domain name for 'official' pages will not normally be accepted, however, the ITS does offer a service to host pages for external domain names on its web servers.
Requests for domain names should be made to the ITS Helpdesk.
