Staff Volunteering and Outreach

Durham University Staff Volunteers

Durham University offers all members of staff the opportunity to apply for up to 5-days a year to volunteer during work time and the Staff Volunteering and Outreach team organises and facilitates these opportunities. We are always interested to hear from community groups, charities and third sector organisations who have opportunities for volunteers in North East England.

Durham University Staff Volunteers

Our staff volunteer for may different reasons; some may wish to utilise their professional experience and skills, while others seek to become more involved in our local community and to 'give something' back. Durham University staff are board members, trustees, youth club leaders, befrienders..the list is endless! The SVO team are here to enable staff to participate in the employer-supported volunteering scheme, so we find that opportunities that are flexible in terms of commitment are the most successful for our volunteers. While staff have the opportunity to request up to 5-days a year for volunteering work, this is subject to line-manager approval, but the time can be taken as full days, half-days or a few hours here and there.

Team Challenges

Departments from within the University and groups of staff from across the University regularly wish to come together and spend a day or half a day completing a Team Challenge with community partners. These are usually practical based tasks, and can range from outdoor opportunties including gardening, hedge or tree planting, and conservation work, to indoor tasks, for example; painting, store room sorting for charity shops, toy cleaning for toddler groups, making craft packs for playgroups and so much more! Please do get in touch if you have a project that could be undertaken by a team of volunteers.
