The VMRC has expertise in all aspects of volcanic margin geology.  The consortium's research tackles key geological and geophysical issues associated with hydrocarbon exploration and development in volcanic margin settings, such as the North Atlantic and the Faroes-Shetland basin. VMRC research is focussed in the following areas:

• Volcanic facies analysis and interpretation
• Volcaniclastic and sediment systems in volcanic margin settings
• Structural geology and basin evolution
• Geophysics applied to volcanic margin settings
