MCR President – Martin Brader
Hello, I’m Martin and I’m the MCR President for 2012/2013. I am responsible for representing the opinions and views of the MCR to the College and the University, alongside the running of the MCR and its activities. I hope to continue the improvements made by my predecessors to ensure a friendly environment and fantastic experience for our postgraduates. With the help of the MCR Committee, I am sure that we can look forward to an amazing year ahead.
I’m originally from Lincolnshire and 2012/2013 will be my sixth year as a member of Van Mildert and the second year of my PhD in Geography. My PhD focuses on the palaeo-sea-level changes and deglaciation of NW Iceland and involves counting thousands of microfossils…
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact.

MCR Vice President – Sören Bock
MCR Secretary – Karianna Haasch
Hi, everyone! My name is Karianna and I am your MCR Secretary for 2012/2013. I hail from Kingston, New York, which is about two hours north of New York City. I completed my undergraduate work in Industrial and Management Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. Now I’m studying at the Durham Business School for my MSc Management (International Business). This is my first year at Durham, and my first time ever to visit a European country! So far, I’m really loving life in the UK, and I’m looking forward to an amazing year to come.
My focus as MCR Secretary is to keep things organized and keep everyone up-to-date. You’ll be hearing a lot from me this year, as I’ll send out the Weekly Bulletin and the minutes from MCR meetings. I’m also known as the Cupcake Queen, so you can expect some delicious baked goodies in the MCR from time to time. Plus, as some of you already know, I spend most of my time in college in the MCR, so (if I’m not analysing business cases) I’m always around for a cup of tea and a nice chat. See you around!

MCR Social Secretary – Charlotte Rose Imlach
As your Social Secretary, I shall endeavour to put on the best events you will ever attend during your time at Mildert. And believe me, babes, they will be superb. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but the next will be positively floral, Cath Kidston style.
If you have any questions or ideas, send me an e-mail, babes.

MCR International Students and Welfare Representative – Carissa Bussard
Hello! My name is Carissa. I’m an American student in the 2nd year of studying for a PhD in English Literature looking at romance, satire, and eighteenth-century women novelists. I’m the International Students & Welfare Rep, Official Keeper of the MCR Play Mat, and general Mildertian involved in lots of things from college mentoring to making toasties. (Phew, what a title…let me explain what it means).
For any International or home student feeling homesick, having problems adjusting to postgraduate life, or just needing someone to talk to, I am here. Any issue, large or small, I can help point you in the right direction or simply be there to listen. With weekly Welfare Drop-In Sessions and a monthly newsletter, I hope to provide you with the support you need to have a great year! Feel free to get in touch with any questions.

MCR Livers Out Representative – Rob Doherty
Now then! I’m Rob, a third year History PhD student studying late modern British history. Born in the West Riding (Leeds), grew up in the East Riding (Hull) and a long suffering supporter of a football team from the North Riding (Middlesbrough), I’m as Yorkshire as they come!
As Livers Out Rep, I will work to ensure that the views and issues of those not living in Mildert are heard and considered by the MCR Committee. I will try to make sure livers out are kept informed of events and other developments within college, and will attempt to organise small social events outside of college for those living out. As someone who has been in Durham from my undergrad I am very aware of the problems with accommodation and housemates that can occur and am happy to help with any issues MCR members might have. I will also work to continue generally improving the MCR for all its members as an active member of the Committee.
If you have anything at all you’d like to raise with me, feel free to email any time and I’ll always try to get back to you ASAP.

MCR Facilities Representative – Melissa Wong
Hi everyone!! I’m Melissa and I’m your MCR facilities rep. Originally from the Isle of Man, I did my undergraduate in Law at Northumbria University and am now studying a Masters in International Trade and Company Law. As your facilities rep I am responsible for the upkeep of the MCR Common Room and kitchens and ordering supplies for the MCR (e.g. coffee). My aim is make the facilities accessible to everyone. I would love to hear from you if you have any ideas on how to improve the MCR facilities or any issues to do with the facilities in general.
Please feel free to come and have a chat (you’ll probably find me in the MCR!) or drop me an e-mail -all issues will be treated as confidential whenever possible.

Hi! I’m Lenny and I am continuing as the MCR Webmaster until my successor is elected. This puts me in charge of the website and its content, so I will be updating things such as the events calendar with upcoming events, the archive with minutes from MCR meetings and the MCR gallery with pictures of recent events!
I’m also responsible for the technical side of the website, and have built the new events sign-up system and the new election system. Currently I’m working on a redesign for the site, and I have plans for a nifty digital version of Martin’s “Publication Corner” (a set of notice boards outside the College library showcasing publications from members of the MCR and SCR).
Although I’m technically no longer a student at Durham, if you have any questions about the site, or spot a glaring error I may have missed, please get in touch.
