Welcome to the website for Van Mildert JCR, which is the undergraduate community at Van Mildert College. There are loads of committees in the JCR which you can get involved with, from helping to organise the summer ball and music festival, to running the college shop and bar.
For any liver's in wanting to go to today's "Free Speech for Durham University" demonstration then I will be leading a group walking down from college.
once upon a time there was a princess, and her name was cinderella. now cinderella was a very silly princess indeed and always left things til the last minute!
one sunny day cinderella wished for some mildert stash. so she logged on to
www.phoenixprint.co.uk/vm
but unfortunately she logged on past midnight on Tuesday 9th feb and turned into a pumpkin.
don't let this be you! make sure you get your stash order in before midnight tonight or come halloween you'll be in a very precarious situation indeed!
As I am sure most of you are aware, Wes Streeting, the President of NUS, is visiting us tomorrow to speak on the issues that have occurred over the past week.He will be answering questions on NUS’s structure, the letter that was sent, our concerns over their methods and their no-platform policy.
The Q&A Session will be at 5pm tomorrow in the Durham Union Society’s debating chamber on Palace Green. There will also be a protest on that day, starting at4pm, with the theme being that Durham Students have effectively been gagged by the actions of the NUS.I urge all of you who have joined the facebook group, said they’d attend the facebook event or even, and (I thank you all for your feedback on this) read and supported the letter sent to Wes Streeting to come and take part in the protest!Get political. It’s what students have done, it’s what students don’t do now, and it’s something we need to start doing again! So come down and truly exercise your right to free speech. Bring back the '60s! It is important... and it could have some very real effects. We will also be bringing A3 card and pens for you to use however you wish when you get there! So just turn up and take part!
Durham University wishes to recognise the outstanding commitment that many Durham students show through voluntary work within the local and regional communities. At present, there is no university-wide award that acknowledges students, who spend significant numbers of hours working in the local and regional communities.
The aim of the Volunteering Palatinate is to recognise up to 5 students annually, who have shown outstanding commitment, and have had a significant impact upon local and regional communities, whilst at Durham University. The award is open to all Durham students, and nominations can be submitted through the completion of the attached form.
A panel representing both University and Community members will meet to consider nominations, and decide upon the recipients of the award. The closing date for nominations is FRIDAY 19th FEBRUARY 2010.
Any person can choose to nominate, by completing the attached form and returning to Any questions about the award should also be directed to this address.
