Research
A wide range of multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research activities take place at Ustinov College encompassing:
- the scholarly activities undertaken by members of the Graduate Common Room (students undertaking taught or research postgraduate awards)
- the scholarly activities undertaken by members of the Senior Common Room (which includes Ustinov alumni and members of academic staff)
- the seminars and workshops organised and delivered by Ustinov students, individually and collectively
- the twice-yearly seminars organised in conjunction with the Institute of Advanced Study
- the research of visiting fellows including COFUND and IAS research fellows
- the development of links with academic departments and programmes, for example through hosting a doctoral fellow linked to the Al-Sabah programme
- and the research and research expertise of College Officers (the Principal, Vice Principal & Senior Tutor and the Bursar) linking the College with departments, research centres and institutes.

In 2012-13 an artist in residence and an alumnus of Ustinov, Alan O’Cain, will focus his residency upon the development of the Senior Common Room and the Café des Arts.
The College’s Research Activities are promoted and co-ordinated by the Principal, Professor Maggie O'Neill who is Professor in Criminology in the School of Applied Social Sciences. The Principal’s research includes the development of theory; a focus upon innovative biographical, cultural and participatory research methodologies; and the production of praxis - knowledge which addresses and intervenes in public policy. Her research activity has been instrumental in moving forward debates, dialogue and scholarship in three substantive areas: prostitution and the commercial sex industry (since 1990); forced migration and the asylum-migration nexus (since 1999); and innovative inter-disciplinary, participatory, performative and visual methodologies (since 1990).
