Single Accommodation

College residence charges for 2013 - 2014 vary between £4868 and £5503 for 50 weeks for a single room. In addition to accommodation costs, a single student will also need about £100 per week to live on. This means an average single student will need at least £9,350 to cover living costs. Some students spend a lot more, particularly if their courses need a lot of equipment or involve field trips. You will also need to pay for your journey to and from Durham and for any trips home during your studies.

Residence charges are inclusive of heating, lighting, hot water, electricity/gas. Single bedding packs are provided for an additional charge of £35 (added to your room invoice, non-returnable and non-refundable) and include sheet, duvet, pillows, duvet cover and pillow case . Towels are provided. You should provide your own cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. Each room has study and bedroom furniture, carpets and curtains. There are shared kitchen facilities in all residences. There are storage facilities for bicycles.


Couples and Family Accommodation Costs

College residence charges for 2013-14 are £7727 for a 2-bedroom flat for a family at Dryburn Road. Couples will need a minimum of £14,000 to cover accommodation and living costs and families will need a minimum of £16,000. Some students spend a lot more, particularly if their courses need a lot of equipment or involve field trips. You will also need to pay for your journey to and from Durham and for any trips home during your studies.

Flats at Keenan House are furnished, self-contained 1, 2 or 3-bedroom apartments, with gas central heating. The residence charge includes reasonable usage of heating and electricity. There are also a number of 'don's sets' at Howlands Farm for couples. These consist of a bedroom, living room, shower and toilet, with the kitchen shared with two other don's sets.

Bedding packs are provided for an additional charge of £35 per single set pack and £70 per double set pack (non-returnable, non-refundable and added to your accommodation invoice) and include:

  • 1 bed flat or Don's set: One set of double sized sheet, double sized duvet, two pillows, double sized duvet cover and pair of pillow cases.
  • 2 bed flat: One set of double sized sheet, double sized duvet, two pillows, double sized duvet cover and pair of pillow cases plus one additional single pack set.
  • 3 bed flat: One set of double sized sheet, double sized duvet, two pillows, double sized duvet cover and pair of pillow cases plus two additional single pack sets.

If you will require further bed packs (in addition to what has been described here), please notify our Accommodation Office in advance of arrival and we will arrange this. A double set of towels are provided. Residents provide their own cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. These additional bed packs will be an additional charge and will be added to your invoice.

All residences, rooms and flats are non-smoking.


 

Council Tax (family accommodation)

Most full-time students do not have to pay Council Tax. However, if your spouse is a UK citizen, and/or is eligible to work in the UK, then you may have to pay Council Tax.


Tuition Fees
