Frequently asked questions
I am travelling to the University by car. Where will I be able to park?
Durham City visitors – parking in Durham is quite limited but for those travelling to the city by car there are a number of options. There are several city centre car parks, such as Prince Bishops Shopping Centre and The Gates Shopping Centre. The tour begins from the science site which is around a 20 minutes walk (uphill) from the heart of the city centre which may not be suitable for some visitors. These car parks also tend to be quite expensive over a number of hours.
We recommend you use the Durham Park and Ride service which runs regularly into Durham city.
The nearest Park and Ride to the Science site is Howlands, postcode DH1 3TQ. This is on the A177 south of Durham, opposite Mount Oswald Golf Course. Less than 1 mile after joining the A167/A177 roundabout. Please alight the park and ride bus at Stockton Road for the Science Site.

Queen's Campus visitors - there are usually ample parking spaces in Queen's Campus' car park which you are invited to use, free of charge, during your visit.
