Loans and grants
Foreign loans
If you are a student from the USA or Canada Durham University will support you with obtaining financial aid from your home country. For further details please visit www.durham.ac.uk/foreign.loans.
There is considerable financial support available towards your livings costs and course costs from the government, and in addition to this, Durham University offers one of the most generous financial support packages in the country with its Durham Grant Scheme.
We have scholarships recognising excellence in academia and extracurricular activities such as sport and the arts which you may be able to access depending on your personal circumstances. There are also choral and organ scholarships available in conjunction with Durham Cathedral.
If you are a home fee paying undergraduate or PGCE student it is likely that your main source of income will be student loans and grants from the government, which are sometimes referred to as 'statutory support'. Did you know...Grants can help pay towards your living costs (food, travel, accommodation, etc.) while you study. The important thing about grants is that unlike a loan, they do not have to be paid back. If you are eligible to receive a grant towards your studies, the amount you receive will depend upon your household income. For more information visit: www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance.
