Water Sports

Kayaking on the Tees Barrage... Located on the River Tees, Queen's is a great place for all sorts of water sports, with a wonderful stretch of non-tidal river frontage. Our new boat house by the river provides facilities for students and staff, and whether you're into sailing, kayaking, canoeing or rowing, waterskiing, jet-skiing or rafting, you have easy access to a range of excellent facilities. One of England's best white water courses is just up the river at the Tees Barrage, where you can enjoy kayaking, canoeing and white water rafting. Coaching is available for first timers and all instructors are highly qualified and experienced. The Tees Barrage White Water Course is currently undergoing a £4.6 million redevelopment to turn the site into a world-class facility.

The River Tees Water Sports Centre is right opposite the Campus offering diving, dragon boating, kayaking, personal watercraft (e.g. jet skis), rowing and waterpolo.

A few yards from Stockton's town centre, you'll find Castlegate Quay Watersports Centre. The centre is probably the North East's largest and best-equipped sailing and paddling centre and boasts non-tidal fresh water from the upper Tees areas.

Taking part

Our Sport Development team at Queen's Campus will help you make the most of the sports on offer, both through your College and at University level. As well as the regular team games, we hold special annual competitions and sports-based social events throughout the year; from the Old School Sports Day during Freshers' Week to the Varsity Match when John Snow College and Stephenson College compete for the College Cup. At the end of the year, we celebrate our successes at the Colleges Sports Dinners.
