Undergraduate

Entry requirements for part-time study

Take the time you need

Our degree programmes are structured into three levels:

  • Level 1: Certificate of Higher Education
  • Level 2: Diploma of Higher Education
  • Level 3: Honours Degree

Each level carries 120 credits (six 20-credit modules or equivalent) and corresponds to each year of a full-time degree. As a part-time student, you can take up to three years to complete each level, and you're likely to study two or three modules each academic year. So the full degree will probably take between six and nine years to complete. You also have the option to end your studies after you've completed the Certificate (two to three years) or the Diploma (four to six years).

Join one of our colleges

As a part-time student you are more than welcome to become member of a college. You don't have to ‘live in' to benefit from the friendly, supportive communities they offer - and of course you can get involved in a wide range of clubs and societies just like our full-time students. To find out more about our college system see the colleges and accommodation webpages.

Meeting degree entry requirements

Details on our general entry requirements can be found in the 'Apply' section. If you don't meet these requirements, we may still consider your application. We don't simply look at your qualifications: your enthusiasm and ability to study are just as important. And there's always the opportunity to join our Foundation Centre, which is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to begin a degree course at Durham.

Changes to Entry Requirements for 2013 entry

Since the 2013 Undergraduate Prospectus was printed in February 2012, there have been a number of changes to entry requirements on some of our courses. Please see the list of affected courses for more information.
