All University accommodation is based in one of our colleges and every Durham University student belongs to a college. In first year, you'll probably live in your college, but whether you live in or elsewhere you remain a member of your college throughout your time at University, an allegiance often maintained for life.

Every college provides...

Accommodation: A variety of study bedrooms
Catering arrangements: Many colleges are fully-catered; others are part or self-catered
Excellent facilities: For study, socialising, sport/fitness and day-to-day living
Community: A small, friendly community helping you to settle in
High level of support: To oversee your welfare and encourage your personal development
Extra-curricular opportunities: A wide range of activities, inc. sports, societies and outreach
Leadership opportunities: Roles & responsibilities enabling you to run aspects of your college
Events: Regular student-led events, including balls, concerts, productions and more

Colleges are not teaching bodies and are not linked to any particular academic department; all teaching is delivered through your department.

Ask anyone here about living and studying in Durham and they're sure to mention their college, even years after they've left!

Whilst our colleges share a lot of similarities, every college has its own distinctive character defined by its buildings, traditions and people. With a little bit of research you will be able to find a college that has a style and atmosphere to suit you.
