The MCR

All postgraduate students in Trevs belong to the Middle Common Room, or MCR.

The MCR is a student organisation that represents and looks after the interests of all postgraduate students. We provide a range of facilities, activities and services for our members to help them settle in and make the most of their time in Trevs and Durham.

Some of the things that we organise are:

  • Formal dinners
  • Cocktail evenings and coffe mornings
  • Research events
  • Volunteering visits
We also provide a range of academic and welfare related services, such as dissertation binding and advice on living out of college, as well as access to the myriad of information relating to all the different events that are going on in college and around the university.

Another very important part of what the MCR does is to provide representation to the college and university on behalf of our students. The MCR is run by an Executive Committee (the Exec), who work to ensure that the voice of our students are heard, respected and acted on by college and university staff. As far as possible, we aim to ensure that Trevs postgraduates are provided with the best facilities, the best service and the best value for money possible. We do this by holding MCR General Meetings, which are an opportunity for members to express their views and hold their Exec to account, however we absolutely encourage everyone to get in contact with us outside of meetings.

The MCR is above all a forum for people to get together, meet new people, and share the wonderful opportunities that Trevs have to offer. We also work in close collaboration with the JCR, the undergraduate student body, and the SCR, the body of senior college members, which further broadens the opportunities we can offer to postgrads, making Trevs MCR an even more vibrant and exciting place to conduct your studies!
