Trevelyan College Musical Society
President: Fleur Baikie
TCMS is Trevs’ very own musical theatre company. We stage a large scale annual musical each February and the whole of college gets involved. Whether you want to be on the stage, in the band, backstage or help with the artistic side of things, there’ll be a place for you! In 2012 we put on ‘Anything Goes!’ to packed audiences and great reviews. Other recent musicals have included ‘How to Succeed in Business….Without Really Trying’, ‘Sweet Charity’ and ‘Funny Girl’. Those involved in the musical society often also stage a pantomime before Christmas and a Cabaret in the summer term – even more opportunities to get involved!
President: Jacob Kegerreis
Acapella is one of Trevs’ newest musical societies. Now into its second year, we sing a wide range of music and are open to everyone who enjoys singing. We perform at college concerts and other music events within college whenever we can.
President: Katie Clay
Chamber Singers is Trevs’ newest vocal group. It is auditioned at the beginning of each academic year and consists of around 12 singers. We perform wherever we can throughout Durham at formal events and around Christmas. We sing a wide range of music and are always open to suggestions for events to sing at, or music to sing!

Flute choir is a small, informal group which meets once a week. Anyone is welcome, whether you have never played before or are a grade 8 musician! The rehearsals are very relaxed and more than anything it is about having fun together. Nevertheless we aim to play in at least one concert a year so that the hard work can pay off!

Trevs Choir is the non-auditioning society for anyone who likes, or would like, to sing! We sing a wide range of choral music, both sacred and secular, and have informal, fun rehearsals once a week on a Saturday afternoon. This year we have sung music by Stanford, Bach, Mozart and Byrd, and at Christmas we sing a vast number of Christmas carols! We have many performance opportunities throughout the year, including Evensong in St Oswald’s Church and various Christmas concerts in Michaelmas Term, plus we have the privilege of singing at two services in Durham Cathedral in Epiphany Term. We’re always looking to welcome new members of any ability, so come along to a rehearsal and give it a go!
President: Laura Prime
Trevelyan College Orchestral Society (TOS) is the college’s orchestra. It is a non-auditioning orchestra that is open to all members of the college who play an orchestral instrument. Members play a wide variety of both classical and contemporary music with other college musicians in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The orchestra performs with other college ensembles at several events throughout the academic year. The orchestra rehearses every Friday at 7:30pm in the Dowrick. This year we have been involved in the DUCK Live on the Hill event, playing both orchestral backing to big rock numbers and soundtrack music. New members are always welcome!
President: Matthew Beadnall
Trevs Jazz is one of the best musical societies Trevs has to offer, and is one of the best jazz bands in the university. It is a non-auditioning band, with a rehearsal once a week, so whether you consider yourself to be a jazz prodigy or you’ve never played jazz before, you should definitely join us! We play at several events in college throughout the year including the Christmas Concert and DUCK Formal, as well as having socials each term. So come along to our rehearsals, and I’m sure you won’t regret it!

Elvet Hill Consort
Director: Oliver Doyle
‘The Elvet Hill Consort is an auditioned instrumental group created with the intention of performing music otherwise not normally covered by existing societies, with a particular focus on, though not confining itself to, music of the Baroque and Renaissance. We aim to provide music for at least one event a term, with the performance of a baroque opera in the second.’

Trevs CU exists to make Jesus known to Trevs. We meet together weekly to remind each other, from the Bible, about the greatest news in the world and to pray that we would live more in the light of it. This news is so amazing that we try to share it with the rest of college. We believe we have all shunned God by living primarily for ourselves, but God loved us so much that he sent his own son Jesus to die in our place so that we can have relationship with him, and spend eternity with him. We’d love to chat or try to answer any questions you have.
Stitch ‘N’ Bitch Society
President: Shini Karandawala
Stitch ‘N’ Bitch is Trevs’ knitting and crafts society. No prior experience is necessary, we welcome beginners! Meetings happen on a weekly basis and we have socials once a term. As well as concentrating on our own projects we do pieces as a group too, and there’s no need to worry if you don’t have materials, we have enough to go around. Delicious refreshments are also a feature of our meetings so come along and we can get down to the knitty-gritty!
