Captain: George Cantlay

Trevelyan College Rugby Football Club are entering a golden age in their history, having secured promotion to the Premiership this year, and reaching the semi-finals of the Floodlit Cup, Trevs are one of the top 4 teams in the University! They have fitness training one evening a week, training on a Wednesday afternoon and matches at the weekend. They hold an inter-year 7s tournament in the summer term, as well as entering the University tournament. Socials are an important aspect of Trevs Rugby, held at the New Inn on a Wednesday evening, as well as an annual tour. Recent destinations have included Budapest, Berlin and Tallinn, undiscovered rugby hotspots of Europe… We are always keen for new members to get involved, (particularly a new prop for next season!)

Women’s Rugby

Captain: Ellie Tait

Contact: eleanor.tait.@durham.ac.uk

Trevs Women’s Rugby are a friendly team who like to run around and get muddy! We train once a week on a Wednesday afternoon and play matches against other colleges at the weekend. Hardly anyone has picked up a rugby ball before coming to university so we are all in the same boat! We have great coaches, regular socials, and with the university women’s rugby teams going from strength to strength there is loads of opportunity for development and progression if you develop a taste for the sport. Don’t be put off – anyone can have a go at rugby – you will get fit, make friends, and have an amazing time playing the best sport in the world – fact!

Men’s Basketball

Captain: Matt Hogan

Contact: mhogan93@googlemail.com

Fresh off a perfect season of dominating Durham’s college basketball scene and securing promotion to the premiership, Trevelyan College’s reigning ‘Team of the Year’ is looking forward to bashing heads in the top flight of college basketball. Basketball is the fastest growing sport in the world. It offers fantastic exercise, fast-paced team play and a safe haven from the freezing, muddy fields of Durham during the autumn and winter months. We are always looking to get as many as possible involved. Whether you’re playing at a university level, or you’re just looking to try something new at Trevs, drop me an email and I’ll let you know how to get involved. Practice is once a week, with optional fitness sessions, and with games at Maiden Castle every other weekend. Don’t miss out!

Women’s Basketball

Captain: Sarah Collins

Contact: s.l.collins@durham.ac.uk

Women’s basketball this year have been highly successful, at the moment being second in the league, which is a big thing for a small college! You don’t need experience to play (or even height!) just enthusiasm. We aim to have fun whilst improving and welcome all skill levels. Practice is once or twice a week with matches spread out over the first two terms.

Ultimate Frisbee

Captains: Jacob Kegerreis, Jack Winterburn

Contact: jacob.kegerreis@gmail.comhttp://www.facebook.com/groups/TrevsUltimate/

Trevs Ultimate Frisbee provides everyone with a chance to play the most amazing sport in a friendly environment. The society welcomes newcomers at any time; almost everyone hasn’t played before coming to Uni. We balance competitiveness with good nature, which is why our two teams are near the top of the spirit league. We boast some of the most popular socials in Trevs. Last year one of our teams was promoted meaning that everyone can choose how seriously they want to take it. So whether you’re an athlete looking for an exciting new sport or want to have some casual fun and make new friends then ultimate’s for you! Please contact me or join our Facebook page if you’re interested in playing, competing or just learning crazy throws with a frisbee…

Women’s Football

Captain: Harriet Plows

Contact: harriet.plows@durham.ac.uk

Trevs Women’s Football provides an opportunity for anyone to play football regardless of her ability. Abilities range from university players to people who have never played before the start of the season. We train once a week on a Wednesday afternoon at Maiden Castle and play both 6 a side and 11 a side matches. The 11 a side matches involve both league games and two cups. Last year, we were runners up in the Floodlit Cup and are improving each year. Two players from the men’s team coach us throughout the year and it is great fun for everyone.

Men’s Football

Club Captain: Chris Calver

Contact: c.e.calver@durham.ac.uk

B Team Captain: Ben Kerawala

Contact: b.c.kerawala@durham.ac.uk

TCFC is made up of three teams playing regular matches at varying standards. This season the A’s are in division 1, the B’s in division 2, and the C’s in division 4. There are also opportunities to play in cup competitions and 6-a-side matches. Players are offered the opportunity to play in matches regularly or to just come along to training if interested in a light-hearted kickabout every now and again.

Training usually happens on a Wednesday afternoon with matches on a Saturday or Sunday, although extra sessions are held for those who are particularly keen. We hold regular socials and have an annual tour somewhere in Europe. Whether a keen sportsman or you just want a bit of exercise once a week, please feel free to come along and train with us as we’re always looking to add to the pool of talent we have.

Table Tennis

Captains: George Twigg and Ollie Bartlett

Contact: g.w.twigg@durham.ac.uk or o.j.bartlett@durham.ac.uk

Trevs Table Tennis is one of the most thriving sports in college; we have some of the best facilities outside of the Uni training centre, and traditionally put up a very strong showing in the inter-collegiate league, having recently secured the 2011/12 title, and are able to field three teams despite our small stature as a college. We cater for any ability, whether you want to be coached or just fancy a hit around with your mates, and look forward to seeing you!

Boat Club

Captain: Simon Bamforth

Contact: s.w.bamforth@durham.ac.uk

Most people come to Trevs having never rowed before, and become hooked on it in the first few weeks! The boat club is open to all and welcomes new members at any time. We train several times a week and try to enter as many events as possible in a term, but it all depends on how seriously you want to take it. Rowing is a great team sport, and TCBC’s socials are legendary. You don’t have to be the next Steve Redgrave or even be particularly strong, and early mornings are avoided as far as possible….

Squash

Captains: Alastair Poole, Alice Blanchard and Harriet Plows

Contact: alastair.poole@durham.ac.uk

Trevs squash club doesn’t take itself too seriously. We welcome men and women of all standards and meet every week during the Michaelmas and Easter terms. We compete in the inter-college league and have been successful in 2012, narrowly missing promotion. Whether you’ve played before or are keen to try something new, come along and you’re guaranteed to have a good time and meet some new people. One of the greatest advantages of squash is that it is not weather-dependant, so while all your friends are complaining that their matches or practice sessions have been cancelled due to bad weather, you can be assured that squash will still be on.

Pool

Captain: Tom Brett

Contact: t.j.brett@durham.ac.uk

Trevs is proud to have six teams competing across all three divisions in the Durham University Pool League. Trials take place at the start of Michaelmas term and people of all abilities are welcome to attend (you do not have to be Ronnie O’Sullivan to join!). Every team plays one league match every week as well as competing in the Trophy competition (which is formatted in the same manner as the F.A. cup – the draws are very exciting since you never know who your next opponent is!). Trevs traditionally holds an annual singles tournament and as of last year, a doubles tournament. More information can be found on the Trevelyan College Pool website:  http://trevspool.wiki-site.com/index.php/Main_Page and on the Durham University Pool League website: http://www.dur.ac.uk/pool.league/index2.html.

Netball

Captains: Flo Gregson (A Team) and Harriet Plows (B Team)

Contact: florence.gregson@durham.ac.uk or harriet.plows@durham.ac.uk

Trevs Netball is the largest all-female society. We have two teams that are entered into a league, and cater for all standards. Some of our players have previously played at university level, whereas others hadn’t played netball before at all.

Our A Team has just been promoted into the Premiership league, and our B Team is in division 2. We meet on a weekly basis, Wednesday 2-3 on the courts outside, and matches are usually on weekends.

Netball is a great social sport. We have a lot of fun on our socials, which usually have an array of themes (a personal favourite was ‘things you find in your garden’). It’s an excellent way to bond as a team and mix year groups.

People are welcome to join us throughout the year for training and matches!

Tennis

Captain: Chris Duncan

Contact: christopher.duncan@durham.ac.uk

At Trevs we’re lucky to have our own tennis court, so there’s an opportunity to play all year round. There’s a practice every week, usually on Saturdays, for players of all standards. These consist of drills, games and practice doubles matches so that by the summer term, when matches are played, we have a good team to beat the other colleges!

For those who are more competitive, going to Trevs tennis means you can meet likeminded individuals and organise matches outside of practices. But above all, Trevs tennis is fun!

Cheerleading

Captain: Sarah McMullan

Contact: sarah mcmullan@dur.ac.uk

Trevs Cheer Squad are a friendly team who stunt, tumble, chant, jump and dance!! We hold two practice sessions a week in a relaxed and cheery environment, in which all abilities are very welcome! The squad works on routines, chants and cheers for competitions against other colleges, support Trevs teams in matches and perform at Trevs Day. Cheerleading is great fun and an amazing way to make some really good friends.

Darts

Captain: John Lumley

Contact Email: j.a.lumley@dur.ac.uk

Darts is played competitively on Monday evenings with matches taking place in the Durham University College Darts League. Trevelyan has three darts teams which consist of a wide variety of players from freshers to postgraduates. No experience is required to play initially, as many pick it up quickly (and the league standard isn’t amazingly high, think 40 averages), but an interest in darts is essential with many of the team players playing regularly for fun in Trevs Bar. A night playing darts is meant to be an evening of banter with friends and being on a team is a great way to experience many different college bar atmospheres throughout the year. Players with exceptional talent can join the University team. Cup and singles competitions are also run throughout the year both at University level and within Trevelyan itself. More information can be found on the league website: www.durhamunidarts.weebly.com

Mixed Lacrosse

Captain: Michelle Tindall and Emma Midforth

Contact: m.a.tindall@durham.ac.uk and e.a.midforth@durham.ac.uk

Lacrosse is a sport is played in mixed teams at a college level and is a very social sport. We take people from all ranges of ability, with most people having not played before. We play in the college league and have won 4 out of our 6 games this year. Lacrosse is fantastic fun – deciding to learn to play was one of the best decisions I made in freshers week. We train once a week and have regular games in the inter-college league.

Badminton

President: Anna Mudge

Contact: a.j.mudge@durham.ac.uk

Trevs is one of the few colleges that has their own badminton court in the college grounds, and so it is really easy to play badminton at Trevs. We have lots of practice sessions each week, including womens, mens, mixed (and MCR) badminton practices, and you can attend whichever practices you want to. Trevs have 2 women’s teams, 2 men’s teams and recently have created a mixed team. We also play two teams in a mixed knockout tournament each year and in a competition at the ‘Festival of Sport’ after exams. If you like playing badminton but don’t want to play at Uni level then you can play as much or as little as you like at Trevs, whether you are interested in joining a team or just playing for fun now and then! If you want to play then email us and we’ll put you on the mailing list so you can find out when the practices are.

Climbing

President: Molly Gallagher

Contact: l.m.gallagher@durham.ac.uk

Trevs Climbing is a small bunch of friendly people who share a common interest in doing something a bit different and getting out of the Durham bubble. Whether you are an experienced climber or have barely done anything more that climb the stairs – everyone is welcome! We usually meet once a week at the local bouldering (Durham Climbing Centre – DCC) centre just outside of Durham. We also run several trips a term to the Newcastle Climbing Centre where we can do some top ropes and lead climbing. Please come along and give it a go…even if it is just once!

Croquet

Chairman: Nick Cooper

Contact: n.m.cooper@office365.elvet.org.uk

The croquet club meets irregularly during the sunnier months (although occasionally we play snowquet in winter) for relaxing and moderately competitive games. We aim to have an ample supply of Pimms, wine, gin and other refreshments (including soft drinks) at every meeting. Membership is open to members of all common rooms and we highly encourage you to join us after exams when we will semi-permanently colonise an area of the back lawn. Croquet whites or morning dress encouraged but not required.

Men’s Hockey

Captain: Matt Wilson

Contact: m.j.wilson@durham.ac.uk

Despite not being in the premiership, we have a promising squad which desperately needs some new additions to help us push for promotion to the top flight! Whether experienced or a complete beginner, we want you! We play games virtually every week during the winter so there is plenty of pitch time for everybody.  Get in contact if you’re interested or have any questions!

Cricket

Captain: Ben Beazley

Contact: benjamin.beazley@durham.ac.uk

For a small college, Trevelyan punches above its weight on the cricket field. We pride ourselves on being a friendly club that welcomes players of all ability, but at the same time we play some very enjoyable and competitive cricket. The Trevelyan cricketing year starts during the Michaelmas term with indoor nets that continue throughout the winter. The summer term features weekly outdoor net sessions, and five or six league matches (and the occasional friendly game). Everyone in the club has the opportunity to play a match should they wish. College cricket is a great distraction from the stress of exams, and the Twenty20 format of the matches means you can work cricket into your busy schedule without disrupting an entire day! The social side of the club also takes off after exams with a barbeque and interclub match that is a very enjoyable way to end the Durham year.

Trevski

Ever wondered what it would be like to crash a quiet little alpine ski resort with 1500 people? Well that’s pretty much what Trevski is…

Trevski is the college ski trip and runs as part of the Uni-wide Palatinalps ski trip. The trip commences during the second week of January every year. Each college grabs a bunch of coaches and descends on the same ski resort. Think of it like flash-mobbing, for a week, in ski gear. The result is a week of top quality snow sports, cheap après ski and huge wipeouts, all topped off with a massive party on the final night. The host of great events changes from year to year but some to look out for are the Big Air competition, the Feast on the Piste, Slalom races and of course, the final night party.

2011 welcomed the Ministry of Sound, while 2012 saw the performance of DJ Fresh. You’d be an idiot to miss out in 2013, but if you’re still not convinced check out the videos below.

Whether you’re a seasoned martial artist, a complete newcomer looking to try something different or just someone who wants to keep fit and stay safe, come down to our weekly training sessions in the JKH and give it a go!
