A student’s academic year is scattered with events and occasions to look forward to; from Bar Nights to Black-Tie Balls, there is something for everyone. You kick-start the year by jumping straight in to Freshers Week – a seemingly endless week of formals, fancy dress and fun, topped off with films, pizza and new friends. Then throughout the rest of Michaelmas Term, there are plenty of bar nights for post-formal dancing to keep things light, as well as DUCK weekend and Halloween. The culminating point is the Informal Ball, which happens in the penultimate week of term before Christmas. This is a themed fancy-dress night packed with entertainment from live music to inflatable assault courses, free food and plenty of photo opportunities, capturing memories of what will hopefully be one of the highlights of the year.

After some well-needed rest over Christmas, the Epiphany Term is started with a night or two of re-freshers, aimed to reconnect with friends from the freshers group, catch up with your freps and inevitably get creative with some costumes again (you will find that you graduate from university with not only a degree and a vast supply of excellent memories, but also a fancy dress bag big enough to live in!).  Things to look forward to throughout this term are numerable; DUCK week falls halfway through, with a multitude of hilarious evenings (such as Trevs Got Talent and Heaven on the Hill – a bar night of sparkling wine and chocolate fountains) and plenty of opportunities to donate to charity.

However, the main term for an events-packed diary is the Summer Term. During the exam period, there is an opportunity to unwind with a Eurovision Bar Night – decorations and themed cocktails while watching the inevitably amusing answer to Europe’s finest musicians…! But the fun really starts after the exams are finished and the books are put away. The final 3 weeks of term are not to be missed for anything! Every Wednesday, there is a major college event, completely jam-packing your final month of term. Trevs Day is held in the first week of this trio, and is a day dedicated to Trevs (as the name would suggest!) and is filled with games, face-paint and much more. The bar has extended opening hours, so people’s afternoons are filled with pimms and barbeques on the back lawn (weather permitting!). The following week heralds the arrival of the biggest event of the year: THE SUMMER BALL. This is an all-night black-tie party, where the men look dashing and the girls equally beautiful. A vast amount of entertainment can be expected, including excellent live music from the UK, free food throughout the night and hilarious comedy to mention just a few things. The night is rounded off with a 5am breakfast of bacon and eggs prepared by the Exec, before the Survivors Photo of all those who made it to 6am!! And if this wasn’t enough, the following Wednesday is Trevstock – Trevelyan College’s very own live music festival with performances from fellow students and groups.

So now you know what there is to look forward to throughout the year, there is no excuse to not be excited! College events are the perfect way to get the most out of your university experience, and take away lasting memories. You have an amazing year ahead of you, so don’t miss out on anything!
