JCR President – Adam Thompson

Hi, I’m Adam, your JCR President.

My main job is to represent you as students to both the College and the University. I will be doing this  through regular meetings with the rest of the Exec, College Officers, other JCR Presidents, and senior members of University staff, so that I can make sure things happen with your best interests at heart.

On a day to day basis I will be doing all manner of things – my job basically means that I’ll be involved to some degree in nearly everything that goes on in college – but you will probably see me most frequently at formals and large events.

At the end of the day, I’m here to run the Exec as a smooth team in order that you have the best experience at Trevs that we can possibly create. To that end, if you have any problems or suggestions for things that the JCR can do for you, please come and see me (A ground flat) or drop me an email – I’d love to hear from you! (trevelyan.president@durham.ac.uk)

Vice-President – Harry Plunkett

Hi, I’m Harry and I’m your Vice President (VP).

As well as doing anything our beloved president tells me to (within reason!) I’m also chair of the JCR committee. This is a great forum where you as members of the JCR can give us ideas to implement. Also, if I’m doing my job correctly members of the committee may come round to ask for your opinions on ideas we have had. This is really the democratic powerhouse of the JCR!

I also help to run Special Projects. This is a fund that is reserved for improvements to college facilities, and takes applications for projects from all of you, so if you have an idea feel free to contact me and I’ll let you know the process!

Furthermore, I sit on the board of trustees as a student officer trustee. Whilst much of this work is behind the scenes, we ensure that we can continue to operate as an independent JCR and act in your best interest. You can also stand for student trustee when places become available, so if you have any questions, contact me.

Whilst I am a liver out, I grace college with my presence almost daily so if you bump into me feel free to say hi! If you prefer the less personal approach, drop me an email at h.t.j.plunkett@durham.ac.uk and I’ll get back to you.

Sabbatical Bar Steward – Chris Wastell

Hi all, my name is Chris Wastell and as your Sabb Bar Steward I am in charge of making sure that Trevs Bar is running like clockwork and providing for your every need.

The bar stocks a large variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and my time is largely spent ordering stock, preparing the bar accounts, managing the bar staff and ensuring that bar events run smoothly.

The bar isn’t just a place for drinking though, and I work hard to ensure that the bar is a pleasant place for anyone to come and socialise, whether that be watching sports matches, holding meetings, or just relaxing.

Although I’m a Sabbatical position, and therefore no longer a current student, I live in college, and so you’ll see me around all the time, be it behind the bar, helping out with events or getting involved with Trevs’ many clubs and societies. If there is anything you want to ask, please feel free to contact me at christopher.wastell@durham.ac.uk.

Treasurer –  Pip Harland

Hey hey! My name is Pip and I am the JCR Treasurer.

I manage all the money in the JCR; from dealing with the money coming in, such as the pool table, gown sales and events to making sure that it is spent in a way that ensures we get the most for our money and that it supports all areas of college life. It is my job to ensure that the JCR stays in good financial stead for the year, so I deal with the things like accountants, insurers and banks.

I also chair FinCom, which is the committee that helps to decide where we spent our money within the JCR, so I would strongly encourage you to join if you want a say in where the money is spent! Another part of being JCR treasurer is that I am an Officer Trustee, so I sit on the Trustee board, whose job it is to ensure that the JCR is being run in a legally and financially sound way; a great experience for anyone especially those interested in how charities run, business, accounting or law.

We are here to help you enjoy your time at Trevs, and Durham as much as possible. Here are some of the things we can help with:
• We offer drop in sessions in our Welfare Room in K-Block
• We are available for Skype chats, which can be kept anonymous, as well as looking after the welfare phone which you can call or text.
• We can also provide you with supplies such as condoms, lube, pregnancy tests and rape alarms.
• We are able to provide you with information about the best support services in Durham and where to find them.
We run a confidential service, where no problem is too big or small. As well as this, we head the Welfare Awareness Committee which organises awareness weeks throughout the year. Outreach Officer  – Lauren Finch

Hey guys! I’m Lauren, your Outreach Officer.

My job comprises a few roles: being ‘Livers Out Rep’, helping people find housing, holding and publicising careers events and keeping in contact with Trevelyan alumni.

In my role of ‘Livers Out Rep’ I ensure that all students living out of college are aware of Trevelyan events and news. I am also here to help students in the transition from living in to living out, by holding housing talks as well as ‘find a housemate’ events.

I also direct students towards the varied and exciting careers events being held by Durham University and Trevs, and am here for general careers advice. The internship/graduate job application talks are usually really interesting, and I’d advise everyone to try and attend as many as possible – it’s never too early to start thinking about career options!

Finally, I am ultimately responsible for all JCR Alumni matters and help create ‘Hippocampus’, the Trevelyan College Alumni Magazine.

I live out of college, but can usually be found in the coffee bar, around the pool table or getting involved in various Trevs events. My email is l.m.finch@durham.ac.uk – please get in touch if you have any questions/queries. Looking forward to hearing from you!
