Durham Students Union (DSU) is the body which represents all the colleges together at a university level. Based in Dunelm House (next to Elvet Riverside), it runs most of the University level activities.

Societies

DSU has over 200 of them from Caving to Chocolate, Photography, Pimm’s….there is something for everyone! Check them out at the Societies page of the DSU website.

Welfare

DSU has a comprehensive welfare system, which works closely with JCR Welfare Officers in dealing with:

  • Financial problems
  • Educational Support
  • Housing Support
  • Sexual Health
  • Mental & Physical Health
  • General Well Being

Services

The DSU also runs other services including:

  • Kingsgate Bar and Riverside Cafe in Dunelm House
  • The Nightbus, a night time transport service
  • Palatinate, the student newspaper
  • Purple Radio, the student radio station
  • Palatinate TV, the student run internet television station
  • DUCK, the charitable centre of the university

People

The DSU is run by a team of four Sabbatical Officers, a series of elected officers and a group of full time staff.

The Sabbatical Officers are:

  • President
  • Societies and Student Development Officer
  • Education and Welfare Officer
  • DUCK Officer
It is the job of the Senior DSU Rep (see exec page) to represent the views of the JCR to the DSU.
The Senior Rep is assisted by the elected DSU Committee, who help to promote DSU events and elections within Trevs.
