Message from Paul Regan, College Chaplain:

Holy Island or Lindisfarne is a small island lying just off the beautiful Northumberland coast. Every year, the island attracts thousands of visitors who come for its beauty, its history and its (generally) slow pace of life. Trevelyan and Van Mildert are doing a joint coach trip to the island on Thursday June 14th setting off from Elvet Hill Road at 7.45am and returning about 5 to 5.30pm. As the two colleges are helping to subsidise this, the cost is only £5 per person which has to be paid in advance.

If you would like to go please email me with your full name and your college. Don’t assume you’re going until I have responded to your email.

Please note:
1. Generally speaking, it is first come, first served but I do give preference to finalists.
2. If you were one of the people who missed out on a place last year then let me know as soon as possible if you would still like to come and I shall make sure you have a place this time.
3. I am prepared to pick ‘couples’ out together but not landing or corridor groups.
4. The coach trip is for students from the two colleges both JCR and MCR.

As far as food is concerned you would need to book a packed lunch for the day and we should be back in time for dinner in the evening (and in the case of Van Mildert students, the Summer Ball). There are also coffee shops and cafes on the island. You will need some more cash if you want to go to the Lindisfarne Centre, which explains the history of the island, the Priory Ruins and Lindisfarne Castle. Otherwise it is a matter of walking around the island, looking out for the seals and eider ducks, going to the quiet beaches and just slowing down. Obviously, good weather is not guaranteed!

Best Wishes,

Paul
