President Report

Hello all, we’re trying out a new form of exec report as part of our plan to revitalise JCR meetings so from now on you’ll be able to read through the exec reports before the meeting and submit your own agenda points for discussion on any changes, support or criticism that you have so that you can get more directly involved in the JCR. Since taking over from Mark and term beginning I’ve attended a number of first meetings with the other college Presidents, the college officers and the exec, and we now have our charity number after confirmation of our registration from the Charities Commission. Over the next couple of weeks I will be meeting with the Principal and discussing all sorts of aspects of college, continuing work with Ben to improve JCR meetings, helping Alarna with whatever she needs to make the post-exam events as good as they can be and meeting with the trustee board. In order to make the new format for JCR meetings work we need your contributions so if you have anything to raise that you’d like discussed then please submit it to Ben.

Cheers, Nick

Vice President Report

I have nothing in particular to report.

Sabatical Bar Steward Report

The bar is available for use during the day for revision – especially group revision.  We’re also trialing serving filter coffee from reception between 2 and 4pm on weekdays.  A cup is just 50p!!

Please bring glasses back to the bar.

Treasurer Exec Report

The JCR can/will buy you things but you have to apply to Financial Committee (Fincomm) first. We will be meeting soon so get thinking about what you’d like to apply for. You have to provide reasons, benefits, cost and supplier.

Fortunately most is quiet on the Treasurer front for the moment.

Despite being snowed in for Exec Bonding and with the additional travel costs incurred, no more than the allotted amount of money will be spent.

Insurance and VAT are being sorted as always.

Please don’t break things,

Alex Heard

Outreach Officer Report

Having attended this year’s Alumni weekend and seen how successful it was, I am aiming to continue the tradition of Alumni weekend next year the same weekend as this year. This should hopefully prevent problems of clashing with open days, 38 week lets and ensure college catering/staff aren’t too busy to cope. My plan involves increasing the awareness of Alumni weekend through social media such as facebook and linkedin. By also keeping Alumni updated with Hippocampus, ex-students can still feel involved in college activities and this should help us increase numbers for next year

Social Chair Report

Hello!

I have done some things!

  • We have a new social calendar!
  • Unplugged will have/has happened! Yaaaay! I’m sure it was fabulous and a great break from work and revision!
  • Meetings have taken place and preparations for Trevs Day (6th June) are underway. Keep an eye out on the social noticeboard for updates about themes and ents.
  • EUROVISION BAR NIGHT! (26th May) Celebrate the end of your exams or take a break from them with a night full of merriment and…interesting performances.
  • Also keep an eye out on the social noticeboard generally for extra events that may take place including those coinciding with the Jubilee weekend!
  • I need an assistant! Talk to Ben and/or me for more information!

I’m sorry I couldn’t be here in the meeting but if you have any questions please email me or grab me in college! There will be more information about events later on this term to follow or in the next JCR meeting.

Love, Alarna x

Senior DSU Representative Report

Hi everybody,

I’m Jon the new Senior DSU Rep, here to guide the JCR through the joy which is the DSU (no sarcasm intended!) Other than reforming the way the college is represented at council meetings through the DSU Committee motion, my main aim this term is to get as many of you as possible interested in the Student Union and how it affects student and college life. On Tuesday 8th May the Vice-Chancellor and 3 other guests will debate and answer questions on the student experience in your college and at Uni. The BBC style Question Time panel debate begins at 7.30pm in DSU on Tuesday 8th May and it is free and open to all. This is your opportunity ask questions about current issues and future plans in Durham University and Higher Education nationally so come along and ask the demanding questions. I know many of you might be freaking out about exams so I’ll be more than happy to ask questions to the panel that are suggested at the JCR meeting (within reason!) Finally I should point out that anyone can come to DSU Councils which are happening throughout term so if you are interested in the agendas of the DSU on a personal or society level or fancy running for a position with the DSU in a college or university position you are more than welcome to come along and I’m about 97% certain you won’t get blown up by attending!

Any questions contact me at jonathon.mileman@durham.ac.uk  Cheers!

Services Officer Report

Formal: The majority of feedback on the higher price range has been good, with suggestions for a different starter in future. I would love more feedback, so let me know what you thought.

Pantries and laundry rooms: If there are any problems please let me know, either by email or text (07949783298) as soon as possible

Secretary Report

* Website- The website is awesome and I’m trying to keep it up to date with things that are happening both in Trevs and Uni wide. Please set it as your homepage as notices are increasingly going on there rather than emails- less spam for you woo!

Let me know if there’s anything that you want to go on there, including photos.

* Bogsheet- the new bogsheet is being put up around college, enjoy! And keep sending stuff in. Especially pulls ;)

Chair Report

Voting for IT Chair, International Students Representative and Environment and Fairtrade Officer opens after the JCR meeting: Come and see the husts, and VOTE! As Nick said, we are trying a new format: The Exec reports in the meeting have been moved to here (well done on finding and reading them) in order to allow more discussion at the start of the JCR meeting: If you have anything you want to bring up, something you feel was not clear in the reports, or something you think the Exec should look into, please send it in to me in the next day or two! During the JCR meeting, we have two motions: one regarding this change of format, and if we should keep it, and the other about changes to the way we interact with the DSU, as Jon Mileman talked about.

Thank you!
