JCR Meeting Summary: 28/4/2013

Hi everyone, here’s a summary of what happened in the Sunday JCR Meeting.

Adam reported back on the SSC and Exec Bonding in Easter, both of which went well and were very productive. There were 14 hours of meetings in the Exec meetings alone.
College Pantries: Aim was to provide Livers in with appropriate facilities during the holidays, as well as provide a long term improvement project for all pantries. Suggestions from students were taken.
Questions for the exec: The trustee meetings; table football table; price of pool table; intercollegiate recycling competition

Motions:

JCR Meeting motion: (how JCR meetings were going to be run in the future). one amendment, motion was passed.

In memory of an Alumnus

In October last year Chris Bygate (M.Eng) (graduated 2005), a Trev’s alumnus, died in a tragic accident whilst in the Lake District with his fiancée, Gar-Ling. Chris was an incredibly active and driven person all through his life and was heavily involved in college life (particularly Trev’s Jazz and TCBC) during his time at Durham. He was recognised for his contributions towards college life through receiving half colours.

Just weeks before his death Chris completed his first full Iron Man, making him even more of an inspiration to those of us who knew him best. In his memory, 12 of his friends from Trevs, along with his fiancée, sister and 17 of his other friends from the North East and his work at Rolls Royce are taking part in the Nottingham Outlaw Half Iron Man in June in order to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance who battled to save his life. This involves a 1.6mile swim, 56 mile cycle followed by a half marathon.

Any sponsorship, however small would be gratefully received and would be going towards a fantastic cause.

Hill-Bailey Charity Rugby Match

This Wednesday, 1st May, at 6.30pm the annual Hill-Bailey Charity Rugby Match will take place at Durham City Rugby Club on Green Lane, just past the University Health Centre.

Amongst the squad, George Cantlay will be representing Trevs and I am sure he would appreciate your support throughout the match.

Our focus this year is supporting Charlie Richardson, the St Aidan’s College RFC captain who was recently diagnosed with Hodkin’s Lymphoma. This is one of the few charitable events in the Durham calendar that aims to support one of our own students – so please, take two hours out and come down to Durham City RFC for 6.30 on Wednesday.

Admission is £2 with a ticket or £3 on the gate. Tickets are available from your college rugby club or any member of the Hill Bailey squads.

We are open from 8-11pm every evening

and from 3:30-4:15pm on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Toasties are served from 9-10:30pm except for formal nights.

TCWFC Floodlit FINAL – Wednesday 1st May

Trevs Women’s Football Club are getting ready to beat Collingwood A in their third floodlit final against them in three years next Wednesday. Come down to Maiden Castle at 7pm to support your team!

It will be a great revision break/pre-drinks session, and the atmosphere is always great- see you down there!

Music Director and Rehearsal Pianist Needed for 3dTC’s ‘Once and Future’ IN OCTOBER:

DO YOU DREAM OF BEING ON THE PRODUCTION TEAM OF A MUSICAL IN THE ASSEMBLY ROOMS?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK ON AN ADVANCE PLANNED LOW STRESS PRODUCTION?

Do you want to be part of the FIRST EVER PERFORMANCE of a new Python-esque historical comedy musical?

Originally written for year 6 children in the early noughties this rejuvenation will be full of epic battles, phenomenal comic timing and of course fantastic singing, as well as being educational! *It’s about legends, it’s about heroes, and it’s about time too!*

ROLES:

Musical Director: Responsible for teaching song vocals to cast (june), organising and conducting orchestra (october/summer)

Rehearsal Pianist: Accompanying singing at all rehearsals (could also help with song vocal teaching if wanted to be AMD)(June and October)(Music provided for learning of piano parts in April.

AVAILABILITY:

Cast Auditions will be first week after exams (additional chorus will be cast in freshers week)

Initial Rehearsals will be 3 full days in the very last week of term (or 3 random days during the three weeks, depending on availability)
