Trevelyan College

Welfare & support

In the best traditions of life in Durham, the support we can offer students is wide-ranging and multi-layered.

Personal Support

Trevs has many avenues available for students to engage with pastoral and personal development support, giving as much or as little as the individual prefers. All students are allocated a College Mentor who will meet up with you informally once a week to initially help you to settle into University life and then help you find the right route for support if any difficulties arise at any time throughout your degree. Mentors will also encourage you to make full use of the opportunities available to you whilst you are here, opportunities that will allow you to develop vital life and employability skills such as leadership and teamwork. Our Mentors consist of academics, members of University staff, senior postgraduates and members of the local community and business, the groups consisting of students from all disciplines and years.

A list of Mentors and their contact details can be found on our Mentor Support information page.

On arrival you'll also find you are part of a freshers' group, with your own student rep whose job it is to help you settle in and adjust to student life in the first weeks. Everyone is also assigned an academic parent - another student doing the same or similar course to you who can give advice on your course and department.

Our Senior Tutor & Vice-Principal, Dr Latham, is  on hand to help you address any problems which may arise, or at least point you in the right direction of someone who can help. The JCR Welfare Officers offer lots of alternative support. Finally, we have the support of our Chaplain, Paul Regan, who can give good insights and guidance on any matters, spiritual or otherwise.
