Choosing Trevelyan
We encourage you to nominate a preferred college using one of the UCAS college codes in your UCAS application. The college you choose will not in any way affect your chances of getting an offer from the University; that decision is made by your academic department. If you prefer not to select a college, the University can select one for you on your behalf. This is known as making an open application.
After your academic department has made a decision on whether the University can make you an offer, your application will be forwarded to the college of your choice. If your first choice college cannot make an offer your application will be passed to an alternative college, or in the case of an open application the University will allocate a college for you.
If you would like to choose Trevelyan as your preferred college, please do this by entering our College Code: "DUR/T" in the appropriate place on your UCAS form.
What are we looking for...?
Trevelyan normally admits about 175 students each year from all parts of the world and from a wide variety of backgrounds. Preference is given primarily to candidates of strong academic potential, especially those who can contribute to the College community and participate in music, drama, sport, clubs, charitable work or any other area of interest beyond the academic. We have a quota for every subject taught in the Durham campus, and make a number of offers for each place: the exact offer factor varies with the subject, as some are more competitive than others.
If you receive an offer from the University and are allocated a place at Trevelyan...
Some students will be called to interview by their department, but the majority who receive an offer will be invited to a post-application open day including overnight accommodation in Trevelyan.
We strongly advise you to take up the offer of coming to the post-application open day as it gives you the opportunity to meet and talk to students, and to experience at first hand a taster of life here. A team of 'Open day' reps will work hard to ensure that you enjoy your visit, and there is also the chance to meet students who will be joining you in Freshers' Week. Trevs is well known for the warmth of the reception we give to new students on arrival, with guaranteed fun and an enthusiastic and willing band of reps to ensure that you settle in comfortably.
