Accommodation

Arguably, one of the best features of the Durham system is the way you pay one bill at the start of the term and are fed and homed for the rest of it! We have recently undergone a major refurbishment programme, updating many of our student rooms and facilities.
All first year students live in College, and most students are expected to live out of College in the second year of their course (and in the case of students on four year courses, also in the third year of study). Students may normally expect to spend their final year in College.

Trevelyan Accommodation
Trevs was designed with the needs of its students very much in mind. The distinctively-shaped rooms are clustered into communal landings rather than long corridors. This helps you to get to know your neighbours easily and, as routes through the building pass the landings, you get to know many more. Each landing has shared facilities, and a pantry with all the equipment needed to make hot drinks and snack meals.
You will probably share a twin room for one term in your first year: this is an excellent way to make friends, especially in the early days. Otherwise, you'll occupy your own single study bedroom which is completely linked to the University network and internet - just bring your PC and we will plug you in! We hope to be able to provide you with two years' accommodation in College - in your first and in your final year. As a finalist you may even have the opportunity to live in an en-suite room.

Most of our rooms are single rooms with shared facilities, however there are also a number of twin standard rooms (which you will occupy for at least one term). Rooms are in groups of 6 on a landing. There are 10 accommodation blocks: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J have standard facilities, and K block has 50 en suite rooms which are allocated to finalists. J Block is the College's Postgraduate centre, where 24 rooms are allocated to postgrads. Blocks G, H and J were refurbished to a high standard in summer 2005.
Living Out
For some students, living out of College in second or third year is an option. If you decide to do so, the Livers-Out Representative of the JCR will help you find appropriate accommodation, within the city of Durham where possible. Students living out still retain their College membership and are encouraged to continue coming into College as much as possible, staying up to date with all College goings-on, and taking part in special Livers-Out events.
