College Induction Events Timetable

The document below outlines the general timetable for Events in College during Induction Week. Many are events for new undergraduates and postgraduates alike, your Freshers' Rep and Common Room Executive members will be able to guide you as to specific events, which are either only for undergraduates or postgraduates respectively. For postgraduates particularly it is important to attend the Welcome formal dinner on Thursday 27 September and the College Matriculation on 28 September.

All new members will attend the University Matriculation on the Wednesday lunchtime and this is your formal welcome into the University community in the magnificent setting of Durham Cathedral. One undergraduate and one postgraduate member of our new students will come forward at that ceremony to sign the matriculation book.

There will also be plenty of opportunities throughout the week to relax in the College setting or take part in one the many informal activities being organised by your Frep team and Common Room Executive members

Residence Agreement (Undergraduates)

Before you can be given a key for your room in College you must have submitted a Residence Agreement.

The Residence Agreement is submitted via the Applicant Enquiry Service (AES) at Durham University.  After 1st September you will be able to log into AES and select Accommodation Agreement.  If for any reason you cannot access the Accommodation Agreement online, please complete and return a paper copy of the form below by 17 September 2012.  Please follow the steps to accept your accommodation and complete the Direct Debit agreement. Freshers who will be sharing a room in the 1st term will be sent an email from Mrs Anne Allen, the Admissions Secretary by 25 September 2012.  The email will include contact details of the person with whom they will be sharing a room. You will not receive an email if you have been allocated a single room for the 1st term. All students will be given their room number on arrival when they collect their room key from the Porters Lodge.

College Regulations

As with all establishments and communities we have a set of regulations that all members of the College should follow.  These are important not only for your health and safety but also to maintain respect, courtesy and tolerance amongst the College community and with the local resident community.  Please read them carefully.

Note: Kettles are provided in the pantries please do not bring your own as they are not allowed in rooms.

Residential Licensing of Motor Vehicles

Every student of the University who lives within the designated area of Durham City (5 miles radius of the Cathedral) and who keeps or causes to be kept for his/her use, any motor vehicle must obtain a University Motor Licence issued on the authority of the PVC and Deputy Warden on the written recommendation of their Head of College or a duly appointed deputy, before bringing the car to Durham. It is important to note that Students will not normally be eligible for the granting of a licence except in cases of exceptional individual special needs such as medical need or need related to academic work.

Parking on University Premises

From 1 October 2012, students will not be entitled to apply for a permit to park on University premises unless they have an exceptional medical need and are in possession of a blue badge or need to use a motor vehicle as part of their academic course requirement (e.g. some PGCE students). Students who fall into these categories, must apply first to their College; however, there is no guarantee that a permit will be granted (unless you are in possession of a blue badge). Students who park vehicles anywhere on the University estate without relevant permissions will be found to be in breach of parking regulations, and action may be taken accordingly. This may include having the vehicle towed away at the owner's expense.
