Trevelyan College

Supporting Trevelyan

There are a number of different ways that alumni, as part of the College community, can and do support Trevelyan. Here are some examples:

Making a donation to the Trevelyan Trust which is dedicated to the advancement and benefit of Trevelyan College.  Currently the Trust is focused on three development areas specified in the College's Ten Year Vision: Increasing the postgraudate community in college, building on our reputation for music and the arts and improving our college environment.  donations can be made by contacting Trevs-Trust, or phoning Karen Fisher (tel: 0191 3347001).  Alternatively you can donate securely online at www.dunelm.org.uk/trevelyan. Thank you for your support.

Career Owls

An important way that alumni can support current students is by offering advice and information about the labour market - sharing your experiences of work and the current situation in your career area.

Trevelyan Career Owls allows you to do this in a measured and secure way.  Find out more by using this link.

Current students are so grateful for any help that you can give them.  What do you wish that you had known in your final year in Durham?

The G.m. Trevelyan Prize for Research

Our Middle Common Room's are establishing a G.M. Trevelyan Prize for Research.  The prize will be open to full and associate MCR members and awarded on the basis of potential shown by applicants to take into account the relatively limited amount of research experience that many will have.

Applicants will submit a research report or proposal which will be assessed within three categories: 4th year Undergraduate Masters/Taught Postgraduates, Research Postgraduates/1st year PhDs and 2nd/3rd year PhDs.

Up to 4 candidates will be short listed from these categories.  They will present their research at the MCR/SCR research event in the Easter Term, after which the judging panel will select a winner.  the prize of £50 and a commemorative plaque will be presented at teh last MCR Formal of term.

The Prize winner will also summarise their work in our Alumni Magazine Hippocampus.

The Tenner for Trevelyan MCR Appeal is supporting this prize.  If you would like to donate, you can download and print off a donation form here.  The donation form can also be found int he back pages of the 2012 Hippocampus.  Alternatively you can choose 'Tenner for Trevelyan MCR' from the drop down menu on our online donation page: www.dunlem.org.uk/trevelyan.

Trevelyan Music Appeal

This appeal focusses on our recent ambition to promote music and the performing arts.  Our recent student survey  showed almost half (40%) of Trevs students are involved in music, theatre and the performing arts, this despite an acute shortage of facilities and equipment.  The Music Appeal aims to provide better equipment, performance and rehearsal space for students.

All alumni, for whom we have an address, received a letter in May 2011 about the appeal.  If you didn't receive a letter, or would like to know more, please contact us and/or update your contact details or you can download the letter and accompanying donation form here or go to www.dunelm.org.uk/trevelyan.

So far donations have been used to by sheet music, for a newly formed Sax ensemble, two badly needed Fender Footman amps and a Marshall bass amp guitar, 12 duet lamp stands which illuminate the entire two pages of music, a Conductor's Stand, portable audio recorder  and a practice drum kit.

We'll be posting regular updates about the Appeal on this site.  November 2011: appeal total £3,000.

If half of our alumni could donate £10 each we would raise £150,000.

Contributing to the University’s Annual Giving Programme Telephone Campaign

Every year between October and March current students, working with Durham University’s Alumni Relations Office (DARO), make a personal telephone contact with alumni from their College, Department or sports club. These calls raise awareness about the annual giving programme, but also give graduates a chance to ask questions about Durham, and students can ask graduates their opinions about the university.

Find out more about our 2011/12 Telephone Team here.  We hope that you enjoyed talking to them!

Trevelyan benefits enormously from monies donated to the College through this scheme. Read about some of the improvements funded by alumni in recent years by clicking on the links below:

If you would like to be contacted in this way, please email your request to annual.giving@durham.ac.uk. For more information about the scheme, this link takes you to the Dunelm University Community pages of the university website, www.dunelm.org.uk.
