Location & Buildings
Trevelyan is unique in various ways, not least our architecture! Designed and built in the 1960s, it is a series of linked hexagonal blocks, with the later addition of an en-suite wing and a sports facility/conference centre.
Location
The College is to be found in a quiet location on the hill just outside the centre of Durham, close to the University's Science Site and only a few minutes' walk from the rest of the University's Departments.
The Building and Grounds
If Trevelyan is anything, it is eye-catching! It is an architecturally distinguished and award-winning building, surrounded by 5 acres of lawns and gardens, with a magnificent daffodil display every spring. This has proved to be the perfect setting for College life. This hexagonal maze, only properly understood and navigated by a true Trevelyanite, has everything the other Colleges have, but all under one roof. This helps to reinforce the College's reputation as having a supportive and friendly atmosphere.
Our 'back lawn', wide open grounds with shrubs and wildlife, is vital open space and students make endless use of it. In the summer months the 'inner quad' is the scene of barbeques, outdoor theatre and music and - memorably - a Champagne Reception before the Formal Ball.
