Travelling between Durham City and Queen's Campus, Stockton
An inter-campus bus service is available for all students and staff travelling between Durham and Queen's Campus, Stockton. This is a half hourly service during the day time and evening Monday to Saturday and an hourly service available on Sundays. An additional express service has been introduced this year, the Express X12 and more details are set out below. Students and staff can travel on the public X1 Arriva service FREE during term time. However, the University can now announce that staff and students can travel FREE on the X1 service during vacation periods too. To gain FREE travel (between the set points Harvard Avenue at Stockton and Durham Bus Station) staff and students need to show their campus ID card to the driver. A printable copy of the timetable for 2009/10 can be found below, this also includes details for the bus service which will be in operation during term time (please note this is a new X1 timetable which came into operation on 30th August 2009, any 2008/09 timetables will now be out of date).
Please also note the Arriva X1 service has changed slightly. The X1 actually runs between Middlesbrough and Newcastle and the changes are set out below:
The service from Middlesbrough to Durham Bus Station and vice versa will still be numbered X1
The service from Durham Bus Station to Newcastle and vice versa will now be numbered X2
FREE travel is available on the X2 but only from Durham Bus Station to Aykley Heads (the stop for Keenan House) and return.
If you arrive at Durham Bus Station and wish to go to the stop at Aykley Heads/Keenan House you can stay on the X1 service as it is the number on the bus that will change to X2 only so there is no need to go and seek a different bus in Durham Bus Station. If you are getting on at Aykley Heads you will now need to look for the Arriva X2 service.
To assist with travel between Durham Bus Station and Aykley Heads, Arriva have kindly offered a flat fee of 50p per single journey on the 63 & 64 services.
Also to assist with travel from Bowburn to Durham Arrvia is again allowing staff and students to travel free on their 55, 56 & 57 services before 10 am. Please see the link on the right for more information.
If you encounter any problems, in particular with late night services, emergency contact may be made directly to Arriva using the following number to enquire about the situation:
0191 2125411
this is the direct line to the control room who will (in most circumstances) be able to see the location of a bus on a monitor. This is open until midnight each night. Should you forget/mislay the above number then you may contact the Holliday Security Office on 0191 334 0080 who will have these to hand.
Also, if you experience any delays or problems or have any comments please contact Yvonne Flynn using the following email address intercampus.bus@durham.ac.uk who will pass these comments on to Arriva.
NEW EXPRESS SERVICE FOR 2009/10
The University is pleased to announce that a new express bus service, X12 (Monday to Friday) is being piloted and will operate between Campuses commencing Monday 5th October 2009 during the first two terms. As this is a premium service with fewer stops, there is a charge of £2 per journey to help fund the provision of the service. Please see below for a printable version of the timetable.
Please note that this is a new service and the usage will be reviewed at the end of the first term. Any changes to the service will be notified at the end of the first term by email and updates will also be available on the University Travel Information web site.
