This course is suitable for researchers who have already obtained a foundational knowledge of German with a sound understanding of the underlying grammar, for example, students who have attended the first two levels of the reading classes offered by CARD or who have at least an AS-level or equivalent.

The students’ reading level should broadly correspond to the descriptor of the Common European Framework for B1:

"B1: Can read straightforward factual texts on subjects related to his/her field and interest with a satisfactory level of comprehension."

The 5 sessions will centre on texts which will be decoded and analysed. The students’ specific questions and problems will be taken into account. The students should also be able to provide texts from their own fields that ideally should be relevant for their own research.

As there is high demand for places on this course it is essential that you are able to attend the whole course. If the tutor advises that you need to attend a course at a different level, you will be able to join the next group at the required level. If however you fail to complete the course without good reason, you will be charged the full cost of £50. The course is free to those who complete it.
