Description

The aim of these sessions is to support colleagues who will be acting as chairs and secretaries to boards of examiners for the first time in 2012/13, following Senate's decision that all chairs and secretaries should attend an initial training session.  The sessions are for colleagues who will serve as chairs or secretaries to undergraduate or taught postgraduate boards of examiners.

 

The workshop will cover:

 

  • the responsibilities, functions and membership of boards of examiners, and in particular the roles and responsibilities of the chair and secretary to the board of examiners;
  • the University regulatory context within which all boards of examiners operate;
  • the role of scrutiny sub-committees in the consideration of evidence of significant adverse circumstances, including:
  • o the way in which scrutiny sub-committees should operate;
  • o the recording of the decisions of the scrutiny sub-committee;
  • o and the reporting of outcomes from the scrutiny sub-committee to the board of examiners;
  • the conduct of boards of examiners meetings;
  • the minutes of the board of examiners, including the University template and the rationale underpinning it.
