How to apply

The Department welcomes applications from candidates with a strong commitment to studying theology and religion, regardless of their own involvement in, or attitude to, religious practice. We value intellectual potential as well as academic achievement and give very careful consideration to each aspect of the application forms, in line with the University's commitment to recruiting students in accordance with their merit and their potential to thrive at Durham University.

Prospective applicants should note that our departmental quota for the intake of undergraduates has recently been increased by 25% (to 71 per annum) from October 2012.

Entry Requirements:

Please consult the course catalogue for entry requirements for our three Undergraduate Programmes: Theology, Theology (International Studies), and Philosophy and Theology.

It is not necessary to have studied Religious Studies at any stage in school, but the Department would prefer candidates to sit at least one A2 subject in an Arts-based subject, not including General Studies or Critical Thinking. We strongly encourage schools to make AS results and point scores available, even if they are not ‘cashed in' before the end of year 13.

We are happy to consider applications from those who wish to defer entry.

We welcome applications from:
- international students with a fluent command of English;
- mature students;
- part-time students;
- students with non-standard qualifications.
