The Michael Ramsey Programme in Anglican Studies investigates the interdisciplinary richness of Anglican traditions, their roots, breadth, and contemporary conversations – across the Anglican Communion, and with ecumenical and inter-faith partners.

Drawing on the historic role of Anglican life in Durham’s cathedral and university, and the legacy of Durham’s scholar-bishops, embodied in the life and work of Michael Ramsey, the Anglican Studies Programme is a network of scholars, practitioners, and initiatives dedicated to the highest levels of academic achievement, multidisciplinary engagement, and ecclesially-linked research.

Theology and spirituality, history, literature, music, liturgical studies, the study of religion, faith and globalisation, philosophy, ethics, and praxis all share in the work of the Programme through the MA in Anglican Studies, the Research Seminar, and research projects and conferences. There are also unrivalled opportunities at Durham to pursue a Ph.D. or D.Th.M. with a focus in Anglican topics, working with the Programme’s scholars in many fields.
