Abstract

Building on the work of Brevard Childs and others, I am working on a theological reading of Exod 3:13-15 that integrates the resources of modern Old Testament scholarship (historical and literary approaches) with patristic interpretation. For a variety of reasons, late-nineteenth and twentieth century Old Testament scholarship frequently ignored or rejected traditional Christian (and Jewish) readings of this text; however, I am interested in critically reclaiming and appropriating patristic interpretation of this text for Christian faith today.
