   General information

I have been a member of the Philosophy department since 2003. I was awarded my PhD at Durham in 2004 on ‘Subjectivity in the Work of Julia Kristeva : The crisis of Identity in Contemporary Society’. My interest in Kristeva’s work on subjectivity is still strong but I have also since turned my attention to issues of gender, madness and narrative. I am currently focusing on the work of New Zealand writer Janet Frame, in particular her use of citation and melancholia in narratives of self.  In 2010 I founded the Gender and Sexuality Research Network at Durham and I coordinated its activities until the end of 2011 when the Network gained Research Centre status. Since October 2011, I have been the deputy Director of the Research Centre for Sex, Gender and Sexualities (CSGS).

I am an enthusiastic horse owner and enjoy most things equestrian. I am also a keen student of stained glass window making, Tai Chi, and Bowen and Emmett techniques.

The event, held over one week first in London and then Durham was attended by over 400 people from various backgrounds: academics, students, health professionals, charities, etc. The Centre has received internal financial support from the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
