Durham University Sutton Trust Summer School

Geography

We are the largest Geography Department in the UK and one of the leading centres of geographical scholarship in the world. Our aim is to sustain an internationally recognised research and learning environment and enthuse and equip students through research-led teaching. Our academic staff number almost 60 and their expertise spans a range of subjects from landslides to the geographies of health and well-being. During the summer school, participants will be introduced to a variety of research-led teaching via taster-lectures from academic staff, followed by group discussions on key issues and debates (e.g. the impacts of climate change). Students can then choose to ‘specialise’ in human geography or physical geography and work in groups to collect and analyse geographical data, which is likely to involve fieldwork. We look forward to welcoming you to the Department.
