Supported Progression

The Post-16 Programme

The 2012-13 Post-16 programme of the Supported Progression scheme is open to talented students studying in the North East and Cumbria who are currently in Year 12 and considering entering university in 2014. 

The scheme offers a substantial package of academic and financial support, as well as admissions guidance, to aid progression to Durham University, though at no point are students tied to applying to Durham. Students will take part in a coherent, structured programme of events including an assessed summer school in Year 12.

  • Information for Teachers

    • Identifying students

      As a teacher, advisor or mentor in a school or college you will play a key role in helping to identify students who will most benefit from the scheme. To be eligible to apply students must be: Studying for Level 3 qualifications In the first year of their Level 3 studies Studying at a state-maintained school or college in County Durham or Tees Valley Classified as a Home/EU student (i.e. not an international student).     • Providing a Reference

      The applicant needs to choose a teacher to write their reference in support of their application form. They will be advised to choose a teacher who knows them best; however if they are new to a school or college and are not sure who to ask they will be encouraged to contact our team for advice. It may be that someone from their 11-16 school is better placed to support their application. Find out more here.

  • Information for Parents

    • The Programme

      If your child or young person has been given information about this scheme from their school or college then they have been identified as a talented student with great potential. The scheme offers a substantial package of academic and financial support to help them reach their full potential and study at a university like Durham. Find out more here.
