A Goddess an Angel and a Train – A Wander Around Modern Public Sculpture in the North East

Course Date: Saturday 7th September to Saturday 14th September

Course Leader: Colin Turnbull

Cost:

Early bookings received by 15th March: £695.00 per person

Northumberlandia by Charles Jenks is the latest in a line of high profile public sculptures in the North East to divide opinion. The huge earthwork follows Antony Gormley’s Angel and David Mach’s train, both of which attracted praise and ridicule in equal measure before becoming accepted parts of the landscape of the region.

This course will visit a large number of different sculptures, from abstract to representational, from earthworks to more traditional media and from famous to relatively unknown.

The course will be partly practical and delegates will keep a sketchbook to draw on sight and collect information during the week.

The visits are supported by talks and practical studio sessions and all drawing materials are provided.

Do not be put off by the practical nature of the course, the sketchbook work is very personal and we will cater for all abilities from expert to total beginner.

Colin Turnbull has been a Head of Art in the North East for 33 years. He is an A level moderator, a visiting lecturer on the PGCE course at Northumbria University and has delivered drawing workshops at Sunderland University.
