You attend lectures, seminars and tutorials during the normal timetable (9am to 6.15pm), and the modular structure of the courses lets you set the pace of your studies to suit your circumstances.

When redundancy came along I seized the opportunity and enrolled full-time on a BA. But when one year in I found myself having to spend more and more time caring for my elderly mother I decided to give up. The student support officer at my college suggested I try part-time. It took five years to complete but I got there in style with a first class honours degree making, for many, a celebration. My journey continued on to an MA in Social Research Methods and culminates with a PhD. Both of which were funded by the University. “It is never too late nor will it prove too difficult to study for a degree if you really want to do it. If you want to be liberated and inspired but think you might need help and encouragement then come to Durham. You will be welcomed no matter what your age or circumstances. You will not regret it but you may find yourself wanting to stay longer than you first anticipated!
