Stephenson College

Outreach & Charity Work

Stephenson students are committed to supporting a wide range of charities. Much of our work is in association with Durham University Charity Kommittee (DUCK) which aids local, national and international charities. Every year DUCK raises thousands of pounds and sends thousands of students to do charitable work around the world.  Every year Stephenson Students take part in a huge range of activities including skydives, the annual Santa Dash, Jailbreak, International Expeditions and many many more.

Last year DUCK  raised a grand total of  £676,732 which was allocated to charities and organisations from all over the world including Project Sri Lanka, the Meningitis Research Foundation, Teesdale and Weardale Mountain Rescue, the British Heart Foundation, Save the Children and the Samaritans.

Our students are also actively engaged in voluntary work, from helping in a local hospice, to teaching in Sri Lanka and renovating schools in Romania.

Taster Days for Local Schools

Twice a year Stephenson College invite year 12 students from local schools to participate in a day of academic and College activities which give them a taste of University life.  Stephenson students run sessions including Cheerleading, Musical Theatre, event planning and chocolate tasting.  Academic departments provide lab sessions and seminars that are typical of a first year course.  Stephenson is committed to promoting University access and to show what Durham University can offer.
