Enterprise Initiative 2012-2013

The Enterprise Initiative supported by Santander Universities took place between January and March 2013. Budding student entrepreneurs were invited to attend a 10 week Business Planning programme delivered by Mr Phil Teasdale, Enterprise Made Simple (Stockton on Tees) held in Stephenson College, Central Meeting Room. After 10 weeks students entered a final Competition with the winning prize being worth £1,000.
The lectures included the following themes:-
- Eureka ! the moment of inspiration
- Business Planning Bootcamp
- One to One Sessions with teams
- ‘Researchopoly’ – Will you pass Go
- Plunge into Marketing – Getting the message out there
- ‘Time to get Social’
- One to One Sessions with Teams
- Show me the Money !... essential finance for your start-up
- Are you ready for your Close-up?
- Life’s a Pitch – after this final session a panel of judge, Bill Oldfield (Oldfield's Restaurant), Carol Metcalfe (Musa Fine Arts) and Kate Thompson (Stephenson College Administrator) received students business ideas, scored and selected the winners (pictured below)
In recognition of their contributions and achievements an Awards Dinner was held on Friday 8th March 2013 in the Waterside Restaurant, Queen's Campus. Professor Brian Tanner, Dean of Knowledge Transfer announced the winners and presented glass trophies (pictured below)
1st Prize to Mr Jack Pennell and Mr Nick Melendez Year 3 Applied Psychology students, John Snow College, with their NAKPAK Initiative, "To provide starter packs to University Students which include items they will need in Halls therefore making the move into Halls as easy as possible"
2nd Prize to Mr Hugo Sunnucks Year 3 Business, Stephenson College, White Bear Motorcycles. "Recycle old parts from Motorcycles, design, manufacture and produce new energy efficient motorcycles"
3rd Prize to Mr Temirlov Tiarov Year 2 Business Finance, Stephenson College, Recruitment Bloc Initiative. "Assisting students mainly, with finding suitable employment, internships, society's from one easy platform"
Mr Jon Powell, Regional Director, Santander presented each participant with a Certificate to acknowledge their participation on the Initiative.
