Stephenson College

About the Programme

The six year programme offers a mix of part time and full time study at the University’s Queen’s Campus in Stockton-On-Tees, as well as an employment and training contract with KPMG and professional qualifications from ICAEW.

The degree phase lasts four years with students studying for intensive periods during the summer at our internationally renowned business school. The initial year of the programme sees students study on Campus for four weeks, then for two months in years two and three. In year four students spend the whole academic year studying full time, before graduating with a BSc in Accounting. The full time year studying at University is a unique feature of the Durham KPMG Audit programme. It allows students to engage fully in student life and take every opportunity that University and College offers to them.

The remaining two years of the programme are spent with KPMG in order to achieve full Chartered Accountant status through ICAEW. Students have hands on experience, working on real cases, for real clients and gaining valuable experience. A lot of the work is carried out at clients’ premises too, so there are many opportunities to travel.

From the outset, students are employees of KPMG, working in their Audit team and receiving a starting salary of around £20,000 (in London). The programme is offered at various KPMG offices throughout the country and preference can be made in the application process.
