Professor John Ashworth has worked in Durham for over 30 years. He is an economist and was awarded a chair in 2007.

My primary interest is the economics of puplic policy, in particular: Public Choice and the Economics of Education. In all my time at Durham, I have been involved in the unique instituition  of the Colleges, initially as a tutor and later as Senior Tutor and Principal of different Colleges, as well as serving as Dean of Colleges. My hobbies include: reading crime novels and I am a late convert to opera and in sport. I follow Newcastle United in football and Lancashire in cricket. In terms of community, I believe that all members of the College are vital to it's success. As College Principal, I have the overall responsibility for all college matters but everyone, especially students, are crucial for a vibrant community. You can find me in my college office on the first floor above the College Reception and look forward to seeing you around college.

 

Dr Jill Tidmarsh BA (Hons) PHD

Jill came to Durham University in 1992 for three years and still hasn't managed to leave.  She read Sociology and Social Policy as an undergraduate and continued in this School to graduate with a research PhD in Self Employment.  Since then Jill has been a Senior Researcher in Applied Social Studies, taking up the post of Senior Tutor and Vice-Principal in Butler when it opened in 2006. 

Jill joined Stephenson College in 2012 as the Vice Principal. She oversees welfare, pastoral care, the mentor system, admissions and academic related matters. Jill is based on the 1st floor of College Reception.

Mr David Fionda BA, MA, FCMA, CGMA

David holds the roles of Bursar for both Colleges and is also the Operations Director for the Campus.  He is an accountant who joined the College after a varied career in the steel, tobacco, construction and engineering industries and latterly with Business Link.  David joined the Colleges in November 2004. The Bursar is responsible for finance, health and safety and the management of maintenance, security and catering services. David is  based in the Admin office on the 1st floor of the Holliday Building

Mrs Mary O'Halloran

Assistant Senior Tutor/Student Support and Admissions Officer

Mary assists the Vice Principal with issues relating to personal, financial, academic and any other matters affecting your life at Stephenson. Mary is also the first point of contact, within the College, for admissions. Mary has 10 years experience of working for Student Services at Queen's Campus and moved to the College in June 2007. Prior to joining the University Mary was a Registered General Nurse for 20 years. Mary can be found in an office on the ground floor of College reception.

Miss Jane Dove BA

Student Support Officer-Part-time and Postgraduates

Jane assists the Vice Principal with issues relating to personal, financial, academic and any other matters affecting your life at Stephenson. Jane joined the College in October 2009 as the College Receptionist. Jane is now the Student Support Officer for Part-time undergraduates KPMG and all postgraduates. Jane is a Durham Business School graduate. Jane is based on the first floor of College Reception

Mrs Kate Thompson BA

College Projects Administrator (Monday - Wednesday)

Kate is PA to the Principal and manages a number of Admistrative projects for the College, e.g. Alumni. Kate is a Business Graduate from Teesside Business School and has been a member of Durham University since 1994, joining the College in 2006/7. Kate originally worked as an Admissions Supervisor in Student Recruitment and Admissions office. Kate is based on the first floor of College Reception.

Helen is a graduate from Northumbria University in Human Organisations. Helen joined Durham University in June 2009 working at Durham Business School before joining the College in November 2011. Helen is your first point of contact for advice on all aspects of living in College. Helen is based on the first floor of College Reception.

Claire was appointed as Student Support Assistant in December 2011 and manages the Vice-Principals diary and is your first point of contact for welfare appointments and absences. Originally Claire worked in Central Admin, Queen's Campus.Claire is qualified in a NVQ level III in Business Administration. Claire is based on the first floor of College Reception

Linda started working for the College in 2002. Linda assists with all College Administration and is the first point of contact for the Languages for All Classes. These are organised by the Language School in Durham and taught here at Queen's Campus. Linda works part-time Tuesday, Wednesday and alternative Thursdays. Linda is based in College Reception.

Kerry joined the College in April 2012 and assists the College Staff with the day to day running of the College. Kerry is an advanced Modern Apprentice.

Alan joined the College in 2004. Alan is your first point of call for all maintenance enquiries that you may have while living in College accommodation. Alan carries out repairs amd maintenance and he takes delivery of parcels for students. We now have 24/7 Security. Alan is based in the Porters Lodge, next to the Laundry

Porter Out of Hours

The Out of Hours Porter performs security patrols and can be called to help with maintenance, noise and behaviour problems, accidents and health related issues. They are based in the Porters Lodge, next to the Laundry.
