Professor John Ashworth has worked in Durham for over 30 years. He is an economist and was awarded a chair in 2007.
My primary interest is the economics of puplic policy, in particular: Public Choice and the Economics of Education. In all my time at Durham, I have been involved in the unique instituition of the Colleges, initially as a tutor and later as Senior Tutor and Principal of different Colleges, as well as serving as Dean of Colleges. My hobbies include: reading crime novels and I am a late convert to opera and in sport. I follow Newcastle United in football and Lancashire in cricket. In terms of community, I believe that all members of the College are vital to it's success. As College Principal, I have the overall responsibility for all college matters but everyone, especially students, are crucial for a vibrant community. You can find me in my college office on the first floor above the College Reception and look forward to seeing you around college.
