In the middle of the courtyard our physical junior common room is loactaed, aptly named Stephenson Central. It is a year old building constructed for the sole use of our students throughout the week to give you a place to relax, play pool, or just have a drink with friends.
Stephenson central consists of four main areas:
The television area – this is open all day everyday. We have sofas and two tv’s both hooked up to the sky box, you can just come in and put on what you want or you can request something in advance (e.g. football) to ensure that it will be on for you. As well as the sky box we also have a laptop cable, which enables you to watch films from your laptop on the big screens. It is a great place to relax and also connects to the bar area.
The games room – also open at all times of the day this boasts a full size pool table, a table tennis table, games box and a jukebox. Leagues are set up throughout the year in pool, with the possiblity of a table tennis tournament going on as well. It is also attached to the bar incase you get thirsty.
The computer room – if you don’t fancy the ‘long’ trek to the library then just pop into Central, we have 8 computers all linked up to the durham network, a table in the middle and a whiteboard in case you need to do group work. There are also a few textbooks in there in case you need to look something up.
The meeting room – generally used by members of staff for staff meetings but it can be used by anyone. If you need to meet for a study session or your society wants to have a meeting then you can book it out in the Stephenson college office.
As well as the four rooms Stephenson Central also has its very own shop, here you can buy all the essentials you will need, from pasta to toilet paper to chocolate.
