You are all very privileged to be at one of the only 6 Universities in the world who operate JCRs! All members of the JCR can have their say on issues at JCR meetings which are normally take place twice a term. Members can become involved in the running of the JCR by standing for position. To be a mem-ber of the JCR you must pay a one-off membership fee, better known as the JCR LEVY. This allows you to be an active member of College – to run for JCR positions, vote at JCR meetings and elections, play for Stephenson sports teams, join College societies and pay reduced prices for College events.
The JCR has three levels of officers: Executive, Non-Executive and Committee Member.
* Exec Officers have more responsibility and are often asked to help out with other areas of the JCR. To become an Exec you have to be very dedicated and are elected in a College wide ballot in February.
* Non-Exec Officers are elected at JCR meetings or College wide ballots depending on the time of year.
* Committee members submit their names for a vacant position in a particular committee, and await its approval (no elections).
All officers are accountable to the JCR as a whole and should act in accordance with the rules set out in the Constitution; this can be found on the JCR website, with a hard copy in the President’s Office.
