Welfare and support

The MCR and the wider college community endeavour to provide each postgraduate with the facilities and support they need to reach their full academic potential whilst really enjoying their time at Durham University, both socially and academically.
As well as having the support of a very experienced Vice-Principal and Senior Tutor, each postgraduate is assigned a personal mentor by St Mary's to act as a mentor. All MCR members have the full support of the MCR Officers and there is a dedicated Postgraduate Freshers' Representative to ensure postgraduates settle into the college quickly.
The purpose of this mentor-tutee relationship is to provide each student with a person to whom they can turn when seeking impartial advice and support. The Mentor's interest in you is with you as a whole person.
It is your personal mentor's job always to be available. Use the phone or email when you need anything from financial advice to a shoulder to cry on. Your Mentor will do their best to listen to your problem and if necessary, show you the path to find the answer for yourself, or pass on your need or question to the relevant person(s).
