Equipping Religious Leadership in an Age of Science

The Reverend Professor David Wilkinson
A series of workshops sponsored by the Templeton Foundation.
The new ‘priesthood’ of scientists such as Stephen Hawking and Richard Dawkins have brought questions of the relationship of science and religion to the centre of intellectual and popular discussion. From the agenda of new atheism to the comedy of Ricky Gervais and Eddie Izzard, the conflict model of science and religion has renewed vigour – a model also followed by growing numbers of creationists within faith communities.
Yet such an image betrays an increasingly fruitful relationship of science and religion at the cutting edge of scientific research. This series of workshops are a chance for senior religious leaders, theological educators, science-religion facilitators and key academics to think together about how to renew confidence among church leaders in an age of science and media, and to affect the tone and content of the science-religion dialogue in the UK.
